At the RC we are always working hard to keep our members and staff safe and healthy.
Under the current circumstances of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the NWT we would like to reassure the RC community that we are taking the following measures:
Everyone entering the RC will be screened to ensure the safety of all members and staff. All members will be required to answer COVID screening questions to be granted access to gym facilities.
All RC members are required to FOB in upon entry into the building and FOB out upon their departure in order to provide accurate time frames of member stays.
By completing the FOB in process you are agreeing that the answers provided in your screening questionnaire are true.
High-touch surface areas are sanitized regularly by RC staff and a top to bottom professional clean is performed by a contracted cleaning company nightly to ensure the club is prepared for use the following day.
Gym cleaning etiquette must be followed by all facility users. This includes cleaning all handholds, weights, barbells, benches, plates and keys facility users may use during their workouts. Failure to follow this etiquette will result in a possible suspension of membership.
All RC staff and members are recommended to wear face coverings while in common use areas to prevent the possible transmission.
YKRC understands that this is a difficult and confusing time for everyone in our community. We continue to put in our best effort to provide everyone the opportunity for health and fitness, especially with the cold weather fast approaching. UPDATE SEPTEMBER 14, 2020
As of September 8, 2020, we have now resumed bar service at the Racquet Club. We have also opened up 2 showers in each of the men's and women's change rooms, and increased our hours to 6:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday to Friday and 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. We have also resumed coffee serice in the mornings and evenings only.

This page contains essential information you will need to know regarding the policies and changes we have put in place. Like many businesses in the Northwest Territories, we have had to make changes in the way we operate to comply with Phase 2 requirements implemented by the GNWT. Our ultimate goal is to keep you safe while you visit our facilities and to allow for you, and our employees, to respect the 2m/6ft physical distancing requirement.
First of all, we are so lucky to be able to have such a large space that we can accommodate so many people in our facilities at the same time. For example:
- Our fitness classes can welcome 15 sweaty people at a time,
- 14 spinners can enjoy our spin classes at once,
- 9 yogis can find bliss in one of our yoga classes,
- The Cardio room can accommodate up to 11 people,
- Combined, our 2 weight rooms will be able to welcome 35 people, including our two Olympic weight-lifting platforms,
- And don’t forget the squash courts!
That’s a lot of members enjoying our facilities at one time! Add to that over 40 fitness and yoga classes a week – all while staying safe and physically distanced!
So now the details.
Please read this email entirely before attending the club.
As a fitness facility, we need to be extra careful who can visit the Racquet Club, so we need you to answer the following three questions:
- Have you travelled outside of the NWT in the past 14 days?
- Do you feel sick, have a cough, fever or difficulty breathing?
- Have you been in contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19?
If you answer YES to ANY of these questions, please DO NOT come to the club.
Your fees will not be increasing. Our current membership pricing will remain the same. We will be re-activating memberships, on June 23, that were active when we had to close due to COVID-19. This does not include those members that have contacted us about suspending their membership. If you do not want your membership re-activated, please contact us.
When you arrive at the club, you will be greeted by a staff member who will be stationed inside the front door. You will be required to scan in and answer the questions above. They will direct you where to go to promote the best traffic flow.
Monday to Friday – 6:00 am to 10:00 pm
Saturday & Sunday – 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
As before, you will need to sign up for classes on MINDBODY. We will not be doing sign-ups at the club. If you need help signing up for a class online, please call us at 920-2224. Spaces will be marked out on the floors indicating where you can work out to safely stay 2m/6ft from the other participants around you. Our class capacities have changed to the following:
Fitness Studio: 17-member maximum
Yoga Studio: 10-member maximum
Spin Studio: 15-member maximum
The fitness studio and spin studio are still available for individual workouts outside of class times, but we ask that you use the marked spaces to do your workout.
Our weight rooms now require sign up on MINDBODY and can be booked in half hour sessions to a maximum of 3 sessions (1.5 hours) per day. There are 20 workout spaces available in the old weight room and 15 spaces available in the new weight room. The workout spaces have been marked on the floor to allow for physical distancing. Use these spaces for your workout. As you work out and move around the weight rooms, please keep 2m/6ft between yourself and the other members.
Signing up for the Weight Room and Cardio Room is no more difficult than signing up for a class but it is a bit different. If you need help booking a session or setting up an account on the MINDBODY app, please call us.
Our squash courts are open but to play a regular squash match you must be part of a 5-person maximum squash bubble. Please call us or drop by the front desk for more information about the squash bubbles. If you live in the same household with your opponent, you do not need to be in a squash bubble. If you are playing squash with someone who is not in your squash bubble, you MUST keep 6ft distance between yourself and your opponent. This means that you may only play conditioned games and practice drills that respects this distance. Only 2 adults may be on court at the same time.
Our change rooms are available for use. There are two private shower/change rooms available on a first come first serve basis. Whenever possible please attend the club ready for your workout as space in the change rooms may be limited during busy times.
